Honfleur est une commune portuaire normande (département du Calvados) située sur la rive sud de l'estuaire de la Seine, en face du Havre, tout près du débouché du Pont de Normandie. Ses habitants sont les Honfleurais.

Elle est surtout connue pour son vieux port pittoresque, caractérisé par ses maisons aux façades recouvertes d'ardoises, et pour avoir été maintes fois représentée par des artistes, dont notamment Gustave Courbet, Eugène Boudin, Claude Monet et Johan Barthold Jongkind, formant l'École de Honfleur qui contribua à l'apparition du mouvement impressionniste. L'église Sainte-Catherine, qui possède un clocher séparé de l'édifice principal, est la plus grande église en bois de France.

Honfleur is a harbour commune in the Norman département of Calvados, in France, located on the southern bank of the estuary of the Seine, very close to the exit of the Pont de Normandie. It is especially known for its old, beautiful picturesque port, characterized by its houses with slate-covered frontages, painted many times by artists, including in particular Gustave Courbet, Claude Monet and Johan Jongkind, forming the école de Honfleur which contributed to the appearance of the Impressionist movement . The Sainte-Catherine church, which has a bell-tower separate from the principal building, is the largest church made out of wood in France.

The city of Le Havre was destroyed almost completely during WWII. After the war it had the bo rebuilt in very little time.
The french architect Perret made the design for the new city. He applied lots of repetition and lots of concrete.
Therefore the city is not loved by many. Tourist guides almost apologize when the town is adressed. But to my surprise that is not fair. Not at all. OK, we visited Le Havre on a very nice day but there's no denying that this city can be a pleasure to live in. I really enjoyed our short stay. Fortunately I'm not alone. Le Havre is the first post-WWII city on the Unesco World Heritage list.....

Le pont de Normandie est un pont à haubans enjambant l'estuaire de la Seine, il relie le Havre (Seine-Maritime) rive droite au nord, à Honfleur (Calvados) rive gauche au sud. Sa longueur totale est de 2143,21 m dont 856 m entre les deux pylônes.

La façade actuelle fut reconstruite en 1931 ; épargnée en 1944, elle fut restaurée dans les années 1960.
Le Havre était autrefois reliée à Tourville-les-Ifs mais la desserte s'arrête aujourd'hui à Rolleville.

Le Havre est une ville du nord-ouest de la France située sur la rive droite de l'estuaire de la Seine. Administrativement, c'est une commune située dans le département de la Seine-Maritime et la région Haute-Normandie. Ses habitants sont les Havrais et les Havraises. C'est la commune la plus peuplée de la région et la plus grande sous-préfecture française. Le Havre est siège d'évêché.

Le Havre a ici le sens ancien de « port ». La ville s'est d'abord appelée Franciscopolis en hommage à François Ier qui prit l'initiative de sa construction, puis Le Havre (ou Le Hable) de Grâce, ce dernier terme venant de la chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Grâce qui existait sur le site avant la fondation de la ville.

Elle est surnommée la Porte Océane. Architecturalement parlant, cette image a été reprise par la « porte » que forme le bâti au bout de l'avenue Foch qui débouche sur la mer. Elle figure en deuxième position dans le classement des ports français, en première position dans le classement des villes normandes, et en deuxième position dans le classement des agglomérations de Haute-Normandie.

Population of the city (commune) at the 1999 census was 190,905 inhabitants (186,700 inhabitants as of February 2004 estimates). Population of the whole metropolitan area (aire urbaine) at the 1999 census was 296,773 inhabitants.

It was the port-of-call for French ocean liners making the Transatlantic crossing (cf Cruise ship). Le Havre is known as "La Porte Océane". It is the largest city in Normandy before Rouen. It is the largest export port in France.

Le Havre has been classified as a World Heritage Site since July 2005. The city has one university and a strong sporting heritage, with “Le HAC”, the oldest professional association football club in France.
